The Cleveland Furniture and Millwork Fair: July 14 & 15th

The District of Design will host the first Cleveland Furniture and Millwork Fair on July 14 and 15th at the Halle Building in downtown Cleveland. This first-of-its-kind fair will bring together Northeast Ohio’s finest furniture makers and millwork companies with Cleveland-area’s world-class design community.

Currently 15 furniture makers are registered, including Amish furniture companies of various sizes from Holmes County, large Cleveland-area furniture manufacturers and individual artisan woodworkers based in Cleveland.

Cleveland City Planning Commission Approves the Canal Basin District Plan

On Friday last week, the Cleveland City Planning Commission, by unanimous vote, adopted the Canal Basin District Plan. The plan, which is sponsored by Downtown Cleveland Alliance, the City of Cleveland and Ohio Canal Corridor, was presented by Greg Calpino of the nationally prominent landscape architecture firm JJR. The overview of the project and the plan was given by Tom Yablonsky, Executive Vice President of Downtown Cleveland Alliance.

The centerpiece of the Canal Basin District Plan is the proposed Canal Basin Park, which will include the current Settlers Landing Park and expand it to a new 24 acre signature park for the city. In addition to the park, the plan coordinates necessary linkages to nearby neighborhoods and from the last phase of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

The Future of the Malls: May 6th

A public forum will be held at 5:30pm on May 6th at the Louis Stokes Wing of the Downtown Public Library. The topic of the forum will be how Cleveland’s historic Malls will be redesigned as part of the new Medical Mart and Convention Center. Everyone is invited to contribute their ideas and share in the vision for the future of Cleveland’s downtown Malls.

Cleveland Design Competition Awards Reception Tonight

The 3rd Annual Cleveland Design Competition will culminate tonight with the 2009 Cleveland Design Competition Awards Reception & Exhibition, which is open to public. The reception will take place at the Colonial Marketplace at 530 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115

DCA to create marketing campaign for Downtown Cleveland

Downtown Cleveland Alliance has released an RFP for the creation of an annual marketing campaign for Downtown Cleveland. The goals of DCA’s new marketing strategy are focused on increasing business and retail investment, condo and townhome sales and an increase in the overall awareness of what downtown has to offer.

Downtown Cleveland Alliance Endorses Issue 3

Today, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance (DCA) formally announced its support for State Issue 3. The Alliance joins the Greater Cleveland Partnership in its backing of the constitutional amendment that would legalize casino gambling in Cleveland, Toledo, Cincinnati and Columbus.
