Starting tomorrow, June 26th, Downtown Cleveland Allaince will launch a new bike rental program in Downtown called City Bikes. The new rental program will operate 7 days a week from 10am - 8pm on E.4th Street across from Flannery’s. Seventeen bikes will be part of the rental station when it launches. For the first time, Downtown Cleveland will have an easy to use and convenient bike rental program.
Rental rates are $15 for two hours ($12 for children) or during the weekday individuals can rent a bike for an hour for just $6. Each bike rental comes with a helmet and a lock. Customers can conveniently pay with their credit/debit cards on-site. No cash or checks will be accepted.
City Bikes will be open every day from June 26th through August 31st, with limited availability in September (Friday - Sunday hours). The program is modeled after several different city’s bike rental programs. DCA looked to Chicago and Detroit’s bike rental programs to see what would work best for downtown.
For its first summer, the rental program will be stationed on E.4th Street across Flannery’s. Next year, the rental program will be stationed out of the new downtown bike station, which will be located in the Gateway North Garage (near Harry Buffalo on E.4th). The new bike station (which is a partnership between DCA and the City of Cleveland) will provide indoor bike parking, showers and lockers for people who prefer to commute into downtown on a bike. Modeled after similiar bike stations in Chicago, the station will provide reserved indoor bike parking and use of the indoor facilities to monthly members.
In the mean time, people can enjoy exploring the city on brand new bikes. Make sure to try City Bikes this summer the next time you are Downtown. Rent a bike and explore the city!
